Learn More about DTF Printing

Best Practices for DTF Printing
Upload high-resolution (300 DPI) PNG files with transparent background—simply changing the DPI of a lower resolution image won’t improve its quality.
Create files in the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 color profile, which gives you the closest possible color match on the printed product.
Create contrast in your designs by using light-colored elements on dark material and vice versa. We don’t print white ink on white garments, so consider the fabric's background color when designing.
For black garments, leave any areas in your design requiring black ink as transparent to allow the color of the garment to fill in for the best print result.
Artwork Disclaimers for DTF Printing
Avoid Neon and Pastel Colors
DTF printers use the CMYK color model, and when artwork files are converted from RGB to CMYK, these colors don’t reproduce exactly like RGB and can appear muddled instead. So it’s best to consider using bold colors like mauve, emerald, burnt orange, etc., wherever possible.
Transparencies and Gradients
DTF printing allows for transparency. However, any design transparencies, gradients, or glow effects must be at least 40% opaque. If not, they’ll either show too much of the white underbase (resulting in washed-out-looking prints) or they won’t show up at all.
Colour Accuracy
The way colors are displayed on a screen and how they print are different due to the nature of the CMYK color model used by DTF printers. But, if you follow our guidelines and choose the right color space (sRGB IEC61966-2.1) and fabrics, you’ll get the best results.

DTF Printing FAQs
Only use high-resolution (300 DPI) PNG files with transparent background.
- The most crucial factor affecting a design's printability is image resolution.
- Ensure your design is originally created at 300 DPI—simply changing the DPI of a lower resolution image won’t improve its quality.
- While we work with the most sophisticated technology to produce the highest quality prints, the end result is only as good as the design files you upload.
- DTF printing can be applied to a wider range of fabric types compared to DTG. This includes not only cotton and blends but also polyester and other synthetic fabrics, making it a versatile choice for different types of apparel.
- There are no design limitations with DTF printing. It can create intricate details in the full color spectrum, resulting in vibrant, high-quality prints.
- The DTF process uses a special adhesive powder and a heat press to bond the ink to the fabric. The result is a durable print that is resistant to cracking and fading.
- DTF printing continues to push the boundaries of on-demand production with innovation, allowing small businesses to efficiently produce and ship small, non-bulk orders.
Yes! We have top-of-the-line DTF printing equipment that offers unmatched color durability. To make sure the prints age well throughout the lifespan of the garment, follow the additional instructions below.
- Cold wash on delicate settings
- Air-dry out of direct sunlight
- Do not iron over print
- Do not tumble dry
To ensure the best color match for your DTF prints:
-
Use the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 color space when creating your designs. This color space is the standard for DTF printing and ensures the highest possible degree of color accuracy when your digital files are converted from RGB to CMYK for printing.
-
Incorporate true black (#000000) and true white (#FFFFFF) in your designs. These colors are essential for achieving deep blacks and bright whites in your final print. True black will ensure that your dark areas are as rich as possible, and true white will maintain the brightest highlights.
-
Avoid using white ink on white garments. We do not print white ink on white apparel, so any white areas in your design will default to the fabric color.
-
Check your design resolution. Always use high-resolution (300 DPI) PNG files with a transparent background for the best print quality. Lower resolution images may result in blurry or pixelated prints, which can affect color accuracy as well.
Learn More about DTG Printing
Discover the quality of DTG printing—where your design is printed directly onto garments using advanced inkjet technology with eco-friendly inks, for vibrant, soft-to-the-touch print results. Watch the video to see how DTG printing can elevate your custom apparel.

Best Practices for Embroidery
Upload original vector artwork. Preferred file types: .SVG, .PDF, or .EPS. For non-vector artwork, use a high resolution (300 DPI) .PNG file.
Overly detailed graphics that might work well for printing probably won’t be suitable for embroidery. Photographs or intricate designs don’t translate well into stitched designs.
Gradients are hard to replicate with embroidery, so use bold and solid colors for the best results.
Use a transparent background in your design, and avoid small areas of negative space by filling them with a solid background color.
Design with the colors of your choice (limit of 6 per design). The colors will be mapped using the Pantone Solid-Coated library and every effort will be made to find the closest match.
Use big letters and solid shapes only. The minimum thickness for shapes should be 0.05" and the maximum 0.5". Lowercase letter height starts from 0.25", and uppercase letter height begins at 0.3".
Artwork Disclaimers for Embroidery
Flat & 3D Puff Embroidery
We offer flat and 3D Puff embroidery. Flat embroidery stitches designs directly onto the product surface for a textured look and is the most commonly used technique. 3D Puff embroidery adds a layer of foam beneath the stitches to create a raised, 3D effect. Please note, 3D Puff embroidery is not available on apparel.
Standard Colour Embroidery
Your artwork can contain any color, but you’re limited to 6 colors per design for all embroidery types. The colors will be mapped using the Pantone Solid-Coated library during the digitization process, and we always strive to match colors as accurately as possible.
Digitization
All artworks for embroidery require digitization, which converts your design into a stitch file that the embroidery machine reads and uses for sewing onto products. This process incurs a one-time setup fee and may involve simplifying your design or adjusting colors to match our thread library.
Available Print Areas for Embroidery
Whether you're looking to showcase your logo on the front or add a subtle logo on the chest, embroidery delivers durable, textured results that stand out. Explore the available print areas in the table below.
Print Area | Dimensions |
---|---|
Front | 9” x 5” |
Left Chest | 4” x 4” |
Right Chest | 4” x 4” |
Front Cap | 2.25” x 5” |
Side Cap | 2.5” x 2” |
Back Arch Cap | 3” x 1” |
Embroidery FAQs
Not all designs are suitable for embroidery due to the nature of the process. Embroidery works best with simple, bold designs and text-based graphics. Designs with intricate details, small text, or gradients may need to be simplified to ensure the best results. Additionally, embroidery is limited to a maximum of six thread colors, so designs with more complex color schemes might require color adjustments to match the closest available thread colors.
- The preferred file format for embroidery is a high-resolution vector file, such as .SVG, .PDF, or .EPS. If a vector file is not available, you can use a high-resolution (300 DPI) .PNG file. The design should be true to size to ensure accuracy during the digitization process.
- The minimum thickness for lines and shapes in your design should be at least 0.05 inches. This is crucial to ensure that the stitches can accurately capture the details without breaking or merging.
- For text, lowercase letters should be at least 0.25 inches in height, and uppercase letters should start from 0.3 inches. Text smaller than 0.18 inches may not embroider clearly and could be omitted during the digitization process.
- Embroidery is limited to a maximum of six thread colors per design. Gradients and complex color schemes are difficult to replicate, so it’s best to use solid colors that closely match the available thread options.
- Avoid small areas of negative space or gaps in your design, as these can affect stitching accuracy. Fill these areas with solid background colors to ensure the best results.
- Before your design can be embroidered, it must go through a digitization process, where it is converted into a stitch file that the embroidery machine can read. This process may involve simplifying your design or adjusting colors to match the closest available thread options.
Digitization is the process of converting your artwork into a stitch file that the embroidery machine can read and then use for sewing onto a product. This process may also involve simplifying your design or modifying the colors to our library's closest available thread color.
Please note that the digitization process incurs a one-time setup fee. The good news is that once your design is digitized, the file can be reused for any repeat orders so you can expect a consistent outcome every time.
